Billed by the tongue in cheek writers at the Daily Show as the "Biggest Showdown in Basic Cable History" Jim Cramer made good last week on his promise to come on the John Stewart show. The showdown resulting from Stewart's pointed critique of MSNBC's "in Cramer We Trust" marketing of the financial talking head at the network was a brutal blood fest. Cramer's financial advice to buy such companies as Bear Stearns as the company tanked soon after obviously rankled Stewart, a staunch media critic.
Cramer obviously wasn't expecting the dressing down he received from Stewart and although uncomfortable- it is an important interview to watch. The lesson here: always understand the scope of the interview you are granting by asking the reporter what angle they are taking and always be prepared for the "gotcha" questions. Never underestimate a reporter- whether it is a local piece or a national audience.
