That was the question raised in a Linkedin crisis communication forum with PR professionals recently. I think the comments are great and I wanted to share them with you today:
Yes, because by
definition our PR role is to make every and all of our publics feel that
they are taken into serious consideration. Finally, what makes every
communication proper and meaningful?
Stakeholders have to feel confidence, we will must make them feel
confident that we act with the maximal effort to fix the problem.
Whatever the outcome during a crisis will be, we make them allies and
not opponents.That union must be asked and stated. The basic problem is
not the reaction and the action of the stakeholders but the problem
itself.
How can we fix a
crisis if we don't measure the impact of the crisis upon the different
categories of stakeholders? The communication channels and messages
conveyed in a crisis need to gauge the stakeholders' reaction and action
following the crisis

Speaking to stakeholders will be part of the solution. Effective
communication can support the conclusion and measurement of a crisis.
