Legal Mail Solicitations- Do it Right!

In today's Houston Chronicle, Mary Flood did a piece on legal mail solicitations. She talks about a friend of hers who got a ticket and then started receiving a barage of solicitations from lawyers. If you've gotten a ticket recently, or worse yet been arrested, you know what I'm talking about.

Some of these letters were professional, others not. It made me think of the ones that weren't and got me to thinking, why would a lawyer go through the trouble of paying for this service and not put their best efforts into their marketing?

The answer is simple: they don't want to spend the money. It never ceases to amaze me how some lawyers will sacrifice quality for price. Putting out not so professional advertising materials not only makes you look bad, but it also casts a negative light on the whole legal profession. After all, you get what you pay for.

Either spend the money and do your advertising right, or just don't do it.
